How do I add a Contact?

You may monitor another user's online/offline state as well as their status while they are online (away, on the phone, etc) through the contact list. To add someone to your contact list is as easy a few simple steps:

First, choose the 'Add' button from the Contact List and this screen will appear:

Select the group from the left (a new group may be added by clicking the "Create new group" button) and select the medium. If you wish to import your list from another client, please consult that particular tutorial. Once these have been selected, a new medium-specific screen will appear. Each is shown below and described.

Adding an AIM/ICQ Contact

This screen controls both AIM and ICQ contact adding. First select the medium from the Choose medium group box, and then type either the screen name of the contact or their ICQ UIN. Once it is entered into the Name field, click the 'Add Buddy!' button. You may add as many contacts as you want (Certain mediums have limits) and when you are done either choose back to add more for a different medium or Done to complete the process.

Adding an MSN Contact

To add an MSN contact, type in their MSN name (Be sure to add their @hotmail.com extension) and choose 'Add Buddy!'. You may add multiple contacts. When you are finished, choose back to add contacts for a different medium or Done to leave.

Adding a Yahoo Contact

To add a Yahoo contact, type in their Buddy ID and choose 'Add Buddy!'. You may add multiple contacts. With each contact, you may enter an optional message which will be shown to the person you are adding. When you are finished, choose back to add contacts for a different medium or Done to leave.

Adding an IRC Contact

To add an IRC contact, type in their nick and choose 'Add Buddy!'. You may also provide a hostmask so you can differentiate between users which have the same nick. A default hostmask is entered for you and should be acceptable for most users. If a user comes online with that nick but does not match the hostmask, a '?' will be placed next to their name in the Contact List. When you are finished, choose back to add contacts for a different medium or Done to leave.
