5 Quick Steps to using GroupWise 5.5
How do I start GroupWise 5.5
This is the GroupWise 5.5 icon. You would double-click it to start. (not this one it's only an example)
This is an example of a main GroupWise screen.
Messages people send you appear in the big list section of the GroupWise Main Window. Right of the screen, you can see who the message is from, what the subject is, and when it arrived. If you wish to read it Double-click it. Here's what a typical message might look like:
How do I send e-mail to other people?
There are two basic ways to send a message: the super easy way, and the very easy way.
The super easy way: Just reply to a message someone else sent you. No hassling with addresses, subjects, or anything. Open the message and click the Reply button. You can't miss it, it looks like this:
Type your message, then click the big Send button. It looks like this:
The very easy way: So you don't have a message in your Mailbox from the person you need to send a message to. Don't panic! If you've ever received e-mail from them or if they're part of your organisation, they must be listed in the Address Book. Click the New Mail button on the toolbar. It looks like this:
An empty message appears, waiting for you to fill it in and send it off. Just start typing the surname of the person you want to send a message to and GroupWise starts guessing the full name and address of the lucky recipient. As soon as GroupWise gets it right, fill in a subject and message, and click the big Send button.
How do I print the e-mail in my Mailbox?
Sometimes people send you messages that are not only worth reading, but are even worth saving. For example, if someone sends you instructions for setting up your computer, you may not have your computer on while you follow the instructions. So print it. Here's how
The Print window appears. It might look something like this:
This window lists the message you selected. If the message has attachments, those are also listed (you can print those too if you want).
How do I check my Calendar?
You know you have a meeting today because you accepted the appointment someone sent you. But you can't remember where or what time. GroupWise keeps track of all your appointments and lets you look at them in a variety of ways. Here's the easiest way to take a look at your day:
1. Click the View as Calendar button on the toolbar. It looks like this:
2. Look at your calendar in the Item List.
Often you'll want to see your Main Window and your Calendar at the same time. A handy way to keep your Calendar open all the time is to open a second window:
1. Click Window, then click Calendar View. A typical Calendar View looks like this (notice that appointments you haven't accepted yet appear in italics):
This window gives you a pretty good overview of everything. The dates in the little month windows are bolded if you have an appointment on that day. Click a date to view that particular date on your calendar. Appointments appear in the Appointment List and tasks and notes appear in their respective lists.
GroupWise has several ways of showing you your Calendar. Experiment with the Open Calendar Button on the toolbar.
How do I put stuff on my Calendar?
If you have accepted any appointments people have sent you, you already have stuff on your Calendar. However, that's really their stuff. You've got your own important stuff to put on your Calendar, stuff like dentist appointments, vacations, and pick up kids. Why do you need this stuff on our GroupWise Calendar instead of on a sticky-note in your pocket? Because if it's on your Calendar, others can't schedule over it. When they try, GroupWise tells them you're busy.
To put stuff on your Calendar, do this:
1. Click the down arrow next to the Schedule New Appointment button on the toolbar.
2. Click Posted Appointment.
3. You can schedule it for as long or short as you want. Just fill in the appropriate information and click OK.
You can also put posted tasks on your Calendar. Just follow the same instructions, but click the down arrow next to the Create Personal Task button on the toolbar this time.
Of course, you can schedule official meetings and tasks pretty much the same way. To do that, forget about the down arrow next to the button on the toolbar; just click the button itself and a blank meeting or task appears. Just add the names of the other people you wish to attend.
